"We dare to predict: he will be one of the greats"

For his first CD with Beethoven's "Diabelli Variations" Filippo Gorini was immediately awarded the Diapason d'Or. Now the winner of the Beethoven Competition in Bonn in 2015 has followed up with even harder repertoire: Filippo Gorini has recorded Beethoven's Sonatas op. 106 "Hammerklavier" and op. 111. These are works of the highest standard, which even the most accomplished pianists usually only dare to tackle at a mature age. The sovereignty with which this 24-year-old pianist not only masters these pieces, but also recreates them in a superior manner, is a cause for astonishment. Gorini pervades slow movements such as the Adagio sostenuto of op. 106 with a stupendous sense of form, remaining as close to the score here as in the monstrous fugue. And in the Arietta Variations of op. 111, Gorini goes beyond the point where the complexity of the music shifts to the transcendent. We dare to predict: he will be one fo the greats.
